Rock Art in Northern Europe

Problem to be addressed: Rock art is the oldest form of human art. The oldest sites in the BSR dates from Early Stone Age from around 8000 BC. The artistic skill and the old age of this art has fascinated modern man and it has now become one of our most important cultural heritages with having a great potential for promotion of the economic development of nowadays remote but in prehistoric times obviously central areas. However, this unique art is now threatened by our modern way of living and without counteractions many of these magnificent sites will be lost in a few generations. This challenge can only be solved by cross-sectoral and trans-national co-operation between bodies and institutions, experts, administrators, non-professionals and local communities.
